Project Scoping During Presale

Project Scoping (or 'Discovery') is a preliminary stage of design, consisting of detailed examination of the functional and technical requirements, which allows the Olive SE or Project manager to estimate the level of effort and project resources that will be required to deliver the solution.  This estimate is used in building the Statement of Work and forms the basis for the Project Plan and Production Plan.

This scoping may be accomplished in different ways, depending upon the project size and complexity.  For small implementation projects which involve a limited application of Olive solutions, the SE may construct a scope estimate based upon previous work and experience, along with a prospect questionnaire.  For more complex projects efforts, an on-site workshop, consisting of 1-3 days of interviews/detailed archive analysis at the customer site, is generally required.  The length of this session, and the list of required participants is dictated by the complexity desired.
